Playing House
Holden and Gwen’s intimate relationship had proved to be just as rewarding as their friendship, and then some! Both could see a bright future ahead of them.
And they knew that, if life gave them any lemons, they would make lemonade together, and drink it in a toast to their good fortune in having each other!
Gwen leisurely woke up in Holden’s arms. Holden kissed her forehead and cheeks gently as they woke. Neither were eager to leave their cozy embrace in the warm bed; They were peaceful and content. Soon enough, though, hunger took over and Holden and Gwen rose for breakfast.
As if spending the morning together, eating Gwen’s delicious cooking, and making googley-eyes back and forth, as the sunshine poured in through the kitchen windows wasn’t perfect enough, Gwen’s phone rang with an important opportunity:
Gwen answered her cell phone as Holden looked on, intrigued. Who would be calling so early in the morning?
As it turned out, it was Vadim Simovitch, who lived down by Holden and Gwen’s old neighborhood, where their parent’s, and Gwen’s sister, still lived. Gwen knew Vadim because he was a talent manager, and had been interested in possibly representing Gwen, the “multi-talented, multi-faceted” artist. She had given him her information after he liked what he saw; but now she had not heard from him in a month.
She knew that agents and managers got busy a lot in the talent business, so it had not suprised her that Vadim had stopped his correspondance without any notice. Still, she had been disapointed everything had seem to have fallen through.
Gwen and Vadim talked for a while, and Gwen seemed to be in very good spirits about something, Holden noticed.
“Yes, Mhmm, great! Thank you so much, Vadim! Yes, I will be in touch” ~Click~
“What was that all about?” Holden asked, a bit miffed for being out of the loop on a clearly very important phone call.
“Holdy, you’ll never guess! That was Vadim Simovitch, you remember him, right? He just got back to me with the greatest news!”
Holden spotted the twinkling in Gwen’s beautiful, jewel-like eyes. Immedietly, he knew!
“He’s going to represent you, isn’t he? The famous retired Vadim Simovitch, once the advertising executive extraordinaire, is going to make you a global corporation!” Holden mused.
“Yeah! Well, not the global corporation part, but yes! He is going to get my art out there, everywhere, and the exposure will win me support, which in turn equals dollars, which will, of course, go toward our new life together!” Gwen was giddy with joy, overflowing with happiness.
Our new life together! Holden replayed Gwen’s words over and over in his head, to make the moment seem more real. Gwen and Holden had a life, together, in which they would share all of their blessings, and all of their pitfalls.
It was almost too perfect to be true. But it was!
The day was easy and effortless, and both Gwen and Holden found that their happiness with each other gave them such peace, that they had the time and the creative brainpower to be super-productive in whatever they chose to do that afternoon.
Gwen was pleased to meet the new roomate, Holden’s fish, and pride and joy, Nimue…
Gwen couldn’t help but think that if Holden was this attentive and kind to a fish, than he would be fantastic as a father. After that though popped into her head, she quickly told herself not to over think anything, and not to rush what was still so new and so precious.
Once Gwen believed him, Holden took her in his arms. He had had a pretty great first day at the bookstore, as far as first days on the job go, and he felt confident that this would be the perfect side career while he worked on his novels, but, despite all the positivity, he had missed Gwen terribly during work hours!
Holden always missed Gwen when they were apart, but today had been a yearning far greater than every before. He was glad to be back home, holding her close.
After being lost in a good conversation for a while, Holden got more playful with Gwen. It may have been her who made everything come together the other day, but tonight was his turn to set get the evening going.
”They say not to touch the fire twice, Gwen, but…I think I want to! What do you say?” Holden said, with a quick wink.
Gwen giggled. “Holdy, you’r too funny!” she said, taking him by the hand and leading him to the bedroom. “I hope work didn’t tucker you out too much!”
Holden and Gwen cuddled and kissed, but they didn’t linger there for long. They had their whole lives a head of them, but they wanted to devote as much of that time to one another, as often as they could:
“I love you, Gwen” Holden said. ” I love you, Holdy” Gwen said.
Tomorrow would be another day of work for Holden, and of skill-building for Gwen. But Holden planned to take Gwen somewhere special after he got off his shift at the bookstore, to show his longtime friend, and his girlfriend, his passion and appreciation for her.
He had been thinking that the Little Corsican Bistro would be nice, right in the center, in the historic section of Riverview that Gwen loved so much. Yes, it was perfect!
But it wasn’t so much the resteraunt that was special, as it was what he was planning to do at the resteraunt. Holden had bought something on his way home from work today, before he came home for Gwen’s home-made dinner. His purchase was now safely tucked away in his suit coat pocket fort the perfect moment…
